How To Get Shaders On Minecraft Xbox & PS

In the last few days, we’ve been getting many questions about whether it’s possible to install Shaders on Xbox. Unfortunately, Minecraft Shaders have not yet been officially released for Minecraft Xbox & PS, emphasizing the word officially. And this is not only for Xbox One; Xbox Series X/S, PS3, PS4, and PS5; also, enter this list. So far, there are only “Official” Shaders for MCPE and Java Edition. Shaders offer features like moving clouds, falling foliage, super realistic sunbeams, and even reflective water.

Deferred Lighting – Shaders for Console Edition

The Render Dragon graphics engine for Minecraft Bedrock Edition is introducing a technical preview of a new deferred lighting rendering pipeline, available for experimentation. This feature is aimed at providing creators with a set of customizable graphics options for add-on development. The teams behind Bedrock Creator and Render Dragon are seeking community input to refine and enhance these features.

Previously, Render Dragon was introduced to upgrade the rendering technology in Bedrock, particularly for Windows with ray tracing. Now, it’s being extended to all Bedrock platforms to enable cross-platform experiences.

The goal is to enhance creative expression in Minecraft through new graphics features, while ensuring accessibility across different devices.

Features of this preview include:

  • PBR materials for both blocks and entities.
  • Primary lighting (sun & moon).
  • Shadows.
  • Bloom.
  • Tone mapping.

These features are designed to work across various devices, from mobile to console to PC. Performance and quality levels will be fine-tuned to cater to a wide range of players.

This preview is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox, and Android. The system requirements haven’t been specified yet, so performance may vary depending on the device’s capabilities. Mojang Studios advises that this is a technical preview and may not represent the final artistic vision. Additionally, the features are expected to undergo significant changes during development. The term “Deferred lighting rendering pipeline” is a technical placeholder, and a more marketable name will be chosen in the future.
